Super Cyclone “ Amphan” 89 Died in Wesbengal

Kolkata, May 21, 2020 : A severe cyclone named “ Amphan “ with a speed of 150 -160 km per hour hit the coastal area  of West Bengal about 2.30 pm on May 20 , 2020.

The super – cyclone along with heavy rain caused great damage to life , property and crops .The districs of North and south 24 Paraganas and purba Medinipur , Kolkata , Howrah and Hooghly were the worst affected areas. Some parts of Odisha and Bangladesh were also  badly affected . The Sundarbans in South 24 paraganas  was badly ravaged . Different parts of Sundarbans were flooded . About 89 persons died in West Bengal and hundreds o people were affected .Most of the mud houses  destroyed. Thousand of trees and electric poles were uprooted.  In those seven districts electict and water supply were disrupted for few days West Bengal  Government started relief work earlier .On 20 nd May Narendra Modi , the Prime Minister of India along with Mamata Banerjee , the Chief Minister of  West Bengal surveyed the affected areas and announced grand Rs 100 crore . According to Mamata Banerjee  the effects of ‘Amphan ‘

Were worse than that of Covid 19 .
